Overview

South Iceland in early autumn is a 7‑day journey designed for you if you want more than a standard bus tour. You’re not just ticking boxes on a map: you’re stepping into wide, silent landscapes, feeling the heat of geothermal water on your skin and watching the sky to catch the first hint of aurora.

From day one you’re invited to slow down: you land, pick up the vans and slide straight into the warm, milky waters of the Blue Lagoon, letting the outside world fade before the real adventure begins. Over the next few days you travel through volcanic peninsulas, geysers, waterfalls and black sand beaches, always with time to stop, take photos and simply stand in front of the view instead of rushing past it.

You will explore places you’ve probably only seen in photos: the Snæfellsnes Peninsula and its legendary volcano, the bursting energy of Iceland’s biggest geysers, the golden mist and rainbows of Gullfoss, the dramatic cliffs and black sands around Vik, Dyrhólaey and Reynisfjara. In the evenings, when conditions allow, you head out again, away from city lights, specifically to give yourself the best chance of seeing the Northern Lights dance above you.

You travel in small vans with a limited group, so you can actually talk to people, ask questions, share the excitement and still feel taken care of. Routes, timings, hotels and key stops are all organized for you, leaving you free to focus on what you came for: the sound of the waterfalls, the crunch of snow, the changing light, the feeling of being very small in a huge landscape.

If you love nature, open spaces and powerful scenery, and you want someone to curate the journey while you just live it, this trip is built for you. By the time you go home, the Northern Lights won’t just be something you’ve seen: they’ll be a part of a bigger story you’ve lived across Iceland’s fire and ice.

  • Please note: The ability to drive is required for this trip

Schedule Details

Day 1 - Reykjavík

Meeting point at the airport, we pick up the rental vans and head straight to the capital, Reykjavík, in time for dinner and check-in at the accommodation. After dinner, free time to relax with a walk or recharge your energy for the next day.

Day 2 - Snæfellsnes Peninsula and Northern Lights

Wake up, breakfast, and departure towards the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, very famous for the Snæfellsjökull volcano, considered the gateway to a Journey to the Center of the Earth, according to the author Jules Verne. We’ll stop every 100 meters to take photos and admire the landscape. Black church, seal beach, and much more! In the evening, weather permitting, we’ll head out again in search of the best Northern Lights.

Day 3 - Gullfoss waterfall

After a hearty breakfast, we’ll hop into our vans and set off to discover the largest geyser in Europe. The term “geyser,” which in Icelandic means “to erupt,” perfectly describes the spectacle we’ll witness: powerful jets of boiling water shooting up tens of meters at regular intervals. A short distance away, we’ll also visit the spectacular Gullfoss waterfall, one of the iconic stops along the Golden Circle. Formed by two cascades with a total drop of 32 meters, it often offers (thanks to unique weather conditions) the magic of a bright rainbow. It can be reached via a pleasant walk along a dirt path, until you find yourself immersed in the silence and majesty of nature.

Day 4 - Laugarás Lagoon and the tomato farm

A relaxing day enjoying the beautiful thermal lagoon of Laugarás Lagoon. Lunch at the facility’s restaurant, followed in the afternoon by a visit to the tomato farm that supplies tomatoes to the entire island.

Day 5 - Dyrhólaey, black sand beach of Reynisfjara, Vík

We’ll wake up early to take some sunrise photos, then set off again towards Vík. Throughout the day, we’ll make several stops at some of the most photogenic spots along the route, especially those overlooking the Hekla volcano. Just before reaching Vík, we’ll stop at the Dyrhólaey viewpoint, a rocky plateau with a massive stone arch. Then we’ll head down for a walk along what remains of the black sand beach of Reynisfjara, an almost otherworldly experience as we walk across this striking dark landscape. We can also take advantage of the night time hours to search for the Northern Lights above some unique landmarks: the Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss waterfalls.

Day 6 - Jökulsárlón lagoon

Today we’ll cover quite a few kilometers to reach the famous Jökulsárlón lagoon. Here, besides being left breathless by the sheer beauty of the place, you’ll have the option to take an amphibious boat tour among the icebergs or go on a guided glacier trek. Both activities must be booked at least a month in advance during the reservation process to secure suitable time slots. After enjoying one of the best lobster hot dogs of your life, we’ll head over to Diamond Beach for some photos. Here, ice crystals wash up on the black sand, creating stunning light effects. We’ll then return to the hotel.

Day 7 - Reykjavík

After breakfast, we say "bye bye Iceland"!
