Go deeper Want the full story behind this journey?

Three cities, three countries, one week — and not a single early-morning scramble to a coach park.

We start in Riga and stay long enough to get past the postcard: the medieval core and the Art Nouveau quarter with a guide who speaks our language, then a day on Kipsala, the wooden-house island most visitors never reach, and the vast Central Market in its old Zeppelin hangars. Then a comfortable coach north to Tallinn, where the walls, towers and cobbled lanes of the best-preserved medieval old town in northern Europe are waiting. From there, one early ferry and two hours across the Gulf takes us to Helsinki for the day — design, sea air, the harbour market — and back to Tallinn by evening.

Six nights, all of them in 4-star hotels inside the historic centres, so the city is outside the door rather than a taxi ride away. Italian-speaking guides in all three cities. A Tour Leader with us from the first evening to the last, handling the logistics and, every afternoon, offering the choices rather than dictating the schedule. In June the light lasts until nearly midnight, which means the free time is genuinely usable — and there is real free time, by design.

Two medieval capitals, a Nordic capital, and enough room to breathe between them.

Itinerary

016 Jun 2027

Riga

Land in Riga and head straight into the old town: twenty minutes from the airport by bus 22 or by taxi. Late afternoon we meet the Tour Leader who stays with us all week. A first walk, a first sense of the place. He handles the logistics and, day after day, puts the options for our free time on the table.

Riga

After breakfast our Italian-speaking guide is waiting in the hotel lobby. Riga starts giving up its secrets — the medieval core first, then Alberta iela and the Art Nouveau quarter, UNESCO-listed and the city's real architectural signature. The afternoon is ours. The Tour Leader lays out a few ideas, from the backstreet shops to the museums, and everyone picks their own. In the evening we gather again in one of the old town's characterful restaurants or pubs, for the kind of night that runs long.

Riga

Kipsala today: an island most rushed visitors skip, which is exactly why we don't. Wooden houses, quiet corners, a Riga few people see. Then the Central Market, sprawling across five former Zeppelin hangars. The afternoon stays open, with the Tour Leader's suggestions for anyone who wants a thread to follow.

Riga/Tallinn

The Bus, included in the price, gets us to Tallinn in a little over four hours — reclining seats, personal screen, no rush. Bags at the hotel, then straight into the medieval old town with the Tour Leader. Come evening, he points us toward one of the best tables in the centre.

Tallinn/Helsinki

Early alarm, good reason. Breakfast from the hotel, down to the port, first ferry out to Helsinki. An Italian-speaking guide meets us on arrival and opens up the coolest, greenest city in northern Europe: the monuments and the grand facades, then the harbour market for local specialities. We finish the city in the afternoon and sail back to Tallinn towards evening. The night is yours.

Tallinn

After breakfast our guide is waiting outside the hotel. Four hours to hear the story of a centuries-old city, and to ask every question that comes to mind. Then the afternoon splits three ways — rest, shops, museums — with the Tour Leader's options on the table. We come back together for our last evening.

Tallinn/Riga

One final Tallinn breakfast, then the bus, included in the price, carries us back to Riga in just over four hours. The journey ends at the bus station, right in the heart of the city.
